The child has an IWM of the self as unlovable and of little worth, and a corresponding model of the attachment figure as unavailable, intrusive and interfering.

The physical environment Although the physical environment may be the easiest aspect of the planned environment to arrange, it still needs to be thought about from the same perspective as the other elements, taking account of the inner world of the child and what it is that we are communicating symbolically to them. The physical environment should be a symbolic representation of the therapeutic process.
